The Vigezzo sweeps became so vital to European safety that in 1520, the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V issued a special imperial decree giving the sweeps of the Vigezzo Valley the legal right to travel freely throughout all German lands to practice their craft—an extraordinary privilege for the time.

As dense wooden cities grew, kings and princes stepped in. They realized a dirty chimney was a national security threat. By making the job a strict, state-regulated service, the social prestige of the sweep rose dramatically, shifting them into a well-compensated, respected class of tradesmen.

Throughout Marcel's childhood he had worked hand in hand helping his fathers in the chimney business. Marcel started as a "gofer" for his fathers while being educated on the different types of chimney materials & tool's being required he can still hear his fathers voices "Go For This ________"
